Spend the morning exploring the back roads around Weston and Peru. Head out for a hike, visit a local shop like the Vermont Country Store, or simply keep driving when a road looks interesting. In foliage season, getting somewhere is half the fun.

By late afternoon, make your way back toward Landgrove.

After dinner, skip the drive back to Manchester, Stratton—or farther afield—and stay at The Landgrove.

The historic building here dates back more than 200 years, with the character that comes with it: creaky and sometimes uneven floors, cozy gathering spaces and rooms that don’t all look alike. A barn converted to a full bar and tavern where the smell of an old wood burning fireplace lingers. Outside, you’re surrounded by the Southern Vermont landscape you came to see in the first place.

Wake up the next morning, have breakfast, and set off in a different direction.

Make your own fall itinerary

There really isn’t one right way to spend an autumn weekend here. That’s part of the appeal.

Hike in the morning. Wander through Weston. Explore Manchester. Drive up toward the mountains. Visit an art gallery. Find a farm stand. Pull over for a photograph. Take a road you’ve never taken before.
