• Peak fall foliage color in Vermont, a dedicated space in our art studio for your creative and artistic endeavors, trails and clean air, friends new and old, and an award winning chef doing all the cooking.

• Foliage & Palette is a self-directed painting stay at The Landgrove. Everything our art workshop guests get — the room, the studio, three chef-prepared meals a day — without the workshop. No instructor, no curriculum, no schedule. Just the best weeks of light in Vermont and nothing standing between you and the easel.

• Come for one night or come for every night. Paint until dinner, then paint after.

The Landgrove Studio is open to Foliage & Palette guests at no additional charge. Paint plein air with a boxed lunch mid-day, work inside the studio, or do some of both. Leave your setup where it stands overnight, and come back to it in the morning.

Appetites covered

• Breakfast, lunch, and a three-course dinner every day.

• Eat communally with the other painters at the long table—the conversation is half of why people come back—or take a quiet table for two in the restaurant, in the tavern, or at a picnic table outside.

• Painting through the light? Tell us at breakfast and we'll pack you a lunch to take into the field.

Nature and the trails await

• Miles of trails start at the back door and connect to more: the Appalachian / Long Trail, Hapgood Pond, Lowell Lake, the Danby–Mt. Tabor seasonal road, and the Catamount Trail. Bring a pochade box and half of them become painting destinations.

• Owner Bruce Haupt will host an organized walk / hike each afternoon and a group trail run each morning. Both optional, both easy to skip. If you'd rather go alone, we'll hand you the route maps.

Price includes everything with exception of alcoholic beverages, and the duck entree on the dinner menu ($10 upcharge). Weekend nights (Fridays and Saturdays have a higher nightly price).

A Day at The Landgrove

•      Reception: Check-in from 3 PM onward

•      Tavern: Snacks and cocktails daily 4:30 - 5:30 PM

•      Dinner: Seating 5pm - 7:30pm (communal dinner at 5:30pm)

•      Mornings free to paint and explore

The Landgrove Setting

You’ll stay in a peaceful historic inn surrounded by the Green Mountain National Forest — an inspiring setting that helps you slow down and settle into deep creative work. When you want to explore beyond the studio, you’re close to classic Vermont: Manchester (Southern Vermont Arts Center, Northshire Bookstore), Weston (Weston Theater Company, the Vermont Country Store), plus scenic drives and mountain towns nearby.

Mini-FAQ

Can my partner or a friend come along?

Absolutely—companions are welcome and very much part of the experience, whether using the studio or not. The second guest in your room is booked as a companion, with lodging, all meals, gratuity, and taxes included, for additional ~$125/night more than going solo. Many spouses and friends join just for the stay—exploring the forest, nearby towns, the pool, or a book by the tavern fire—while still sharing every meal.

Can my partner or friend also use the studio?

Yes!

What about dietary needs?

Add any dietary requirements in the Special Requests field at checkout and we’ll prepare accordingly. Our expert chefs regularly cater to all manner of needs.

How do I get there?

The nearest airports are Albany, Hartford, Boston, and Rutland VT. Train stations are in Albany NY and Brattleboro VT (recommend Albany if travelling from NYC). For transit from an airport or train station we recommend Mountain Drivers (802.772.5223, mtndrivers.com).

What should I bring?

Tables and studio space are provided. Bring what you need for your project, but feel free to let us know if you have any questions!

How many spots in studio?

The maximum capacity for artists for open studio days is 15.

Can Vermont locals attend without staying at the inn?

Yes! If you're a local and would want to commute to use the studio, you may! Inquire as well regarding any meals you would be interested in.
