About the event

"A beautiful portrait not only attains a remarkable likeness but also captures the true spirit of the

subject." - Nanette Fluhr

Join internationally recognized portraitist Nanette Fluhr for a five-day classical portrait painting

workshop. Working from a live model each day, you will learn timeless techniques used by the Old

Masters to create compelling, lifelike portraits in the classical realist tradition.

What You'll Learn:

  • Achieve accurate likeness and proportion

  • Understand light, shadow, and form on the live model

  • Mix naturalistic skin tones using the Reilly Method, a structured approach passed down through Nanette's mentor John Frederick Murray - a student of Frank J. Reilly, the legendary teacher at the Art Students League of New York

  • Create convincing three-dimensional effects

  • Study facial anatomy and features for expressive portraits

Nanette provides daily demonstrations and personalized critiques. Her clear, structured teaching style makes complex concepts accessible to artists at every level.

About Your Instructor:

With 25+ years of professional portrait experience, including her time as a registered copyist at the

Metropolitan Museum of Art, Nanette is among the first artists permanently archived on the Moon
